How do we know if God is really answering our prayers?

You’ve been feeling sick, so the doctor gives you some medicine, and a few days later you’re feeling much better. You assume the medicine worked, but do you really know? Maybe you would have started feeling better in a few days anyway. And if you’re not feeling better, then do you give up on medicine and say it doesn’t work?
