Risky business

Helping people in need is one way we follow Jesus. But when others are praising us for it, we run the risk of taking that praise too seriously. We may be tempted to see ourselves as superior. Maybe even to enjoy a little taste of savior status. But if we’re spiritually grounded, we won’t be seduced by the admiration. Like Barnabas and Paul, we’ll remember we’re just like everyone else.

To get ready for this Sunday, read Acts chapter 14 about the missionary journey of Paul and Barnabas in Asia Minor, which is present day Turkey, as they spread the good news of Jesus.
